For many parents there is a disconnect between the treasured memories of their youth and what they are able to offer their children. One such memory for me is the time I spent riding my bike all over town. Like many children growing up in a rural area, my bike was my escape, and at a very young age I could just as easily bike my way to a pack of bubble gum at the closest gas station as I could travel to play with a friend.
Times have changed. The advent of safety rules and changes in bicycles themselves have made this favorite past time much safer for children of all ages! But as rural areas and small suburbs have given way to bustling towns, many parents like myself do not know where to start with introducing the love of biking to our children.
