REVIEW: Rock of Ages Original Broadway Cast Recording

I was recently chosen to participate in a promotion to review of the Rock of Ages Original Broadway Cast Recording through the One2One Network. Rock of Ages was nominated for 5 Tony Awards and features American Idol finalist Constantine Maroulis. Set in 1987, it is a story of "a small town girl meets a big city dreamer and they fall in love to 80's music." You would think that might not be a great premise for a Broadway show but it works. It certainly isn't your typical Broadway musical but it seems musicals have changed and the trend to use music that is not written for the show seems to be catching on. You are sure to recognize most or all of the 22 songs on the CD. The CD features the music of Journey, Pat Benatar, Foreigner, Twisted Sister, Poison, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake and more:

Here is the listing:
Just Like Paradise / Nothin' But A Good Time
Sister Christian
We Built This City / Too Much Time On My Hands
I Wanna Rock
We're Not Gonna Take It
Heaven/More Than Words / To Be With You
Waiting For A Girl Like You
Wanted Dead Or Alive
I Want To Know What Love Is
Cum On Feel The Noize / We're Not Gonna Take It (Reprise)
Harden My Heart / Shadows Of The Night
Here I Go Again
The Final Countdown
Any Way You Want It / I Wanna Rock (Reprise)
High Enough
I Hate Myself For Loving You / Heat Of The Moment
Hit Me With Your Best Shot
Can't Fight This Feeling
Every Rose Has Its Thorn
Oh Sherrie
The Search Is Over
Don't Stop Believin'

These are the songs I grew up listening to years ago so I really enjoyed the CD. Now the songs have been cut to fit the show and lyrics changed. And if you are expecting the songs you are used to hearing, it might be a let down. By no means are the vocals bad but they are different from the original songs. But for the most part listening to this CD brought back some good memories of when I was much younger and it was a lot of fun. I also have to say that if I am ever in New York, I would love to see this show on Broadway. It is just a fun CD!!

The CD is in stores now. You can also buy it online. So if you are ready to rock, check out this CD.
