Have you ever had an unwrap attack? What is an unwrap attack, you ask? Well, it's when you are given a gift you really want and go nuts when you open it.This year eBay has teamed up with Samantha Bee to celebrate the "unwrap attack" through the Love to Give campaign. The campaign focuses on the joys of holiday gift giving. You can visit the Love to Give site and watch some eBay webisodes and a gallery of consumer-created "unwrap attack" videos that will showcase some of the most hilarious and heartwarming gift giving and receiving moments captured on video! These are great! I watched a few and this was my favorite:
It cracked me. I remember having an unwrap attack when I was 5 years old and got my first Barbie doll. I went nuts. The next year I had another unwrap attack when I got a faux fur white coat with diamond buttons. Looking back, I have no idea why that gave me an unwrap attack but it was just the prettiest coat I had ever seen. Again, I went nuts and wore it all day.
My last unwrap attack came a few years ago when my hubby surprised me with a giant Patrick, from Spongebob Squarepants, stuffed doll. Yes, I am over 40 years old but I love my Patrick doll. I was so surprised that he took the time to find me this giant stuffed toy. It was so unexpected and so big, I really flipped out. I know that sounds weird but that's how I roll.
This year, what would give me an unwrap attack would probably be a trip to Vegas or George Clooney. I think I have a better chance of going to Vegas though.

ReplyDeleteMy best unwrap attack story is really such a funny one. I went to a local crafts show and bought several stuffed catnip toys. There was a stuffed rainbow, a stuffed banana, a stuffed carrot and a stuffed mouse. The seller promised the catnip was fresh and that she stuffed plenty into her toys. I gave a sniff and approved.
ReplyDeleteI wrapped the toys went I got home and put them aside. In the middle of the night, I heard crunching and furious ripping noises. I got up and saw my two cats, Flip and Stinky furiously eating through and clawing at the wrapping paper to get to the cat nip toys. I attempted to get the gifts away since we were weeks away from the holidays.
However, I heard a growl from within from one of the cats that sounded like an extra-terrestrial being had grown in them. I let them be and watched one of the funniest sites I ever saw.
Flip and Stinky were whipping all over, fur flying with wrapping paper bring torn, shredded, eaten and ripped into thousands of pieces just to get to those cat nip toys.It was one serious unwrap attack that year courtesy of Flip and Stinky and some catnip.
I would love to unwrap a new digital camera or an Ipod.

ReplyDeleteA few years ago - the first year the Xbox 360 was out - we didn't really have a lot of money but I knew my boyfriend wanted some sort of Video Gaming system. I asked around at work, and in stores and decided the Xbox 360 was the way to go. Good thing we each had our own credit cards because little did I know he had shelled out a small fortune to buy me an imac that year (my computer was def about to die) . We both ended up having unwrap attacks that year because neither of us expected the other person to get something that big/expensive! Thank god for payment plans!

Okay so honestly, I would have an unwrap attack if I opened a box with a $3,050 left we still need to raise to cover my sons genetic testing. Insurance doesnt cover the genetic testing he needs. He is two yrs old and has been diagnosed with numerous health conditions, most recently, Autism. Even though multiple specialists, including the director of the genetics dept at the childrens hospital of philly, wrote them trying to appeal/get the tests covered. So for now, we are just having faith that the rest of the money will come in to self pay for the testing. So as im sure you can tell, I would have a major unwrap attack for that :)

My daughter just had an Unwrap Attack 2 days ago. It was her 9th bday and she really wanted one of those Furreal GoGo dogs. I told her I wasn't going to spend $45 on a play dog when we have 3 real ones at home. I didn't wrap it in bday wrapping, nope, I put it in a flex garbage bag and triple tied it. When we handed it to her it barked inside the bag. She totally FLIPPED out and screamed the whole time she was trying to open that bag. Not only did she flip out but so did our real dogs because of her high pitched screams. It took her FOREVER thanks to Hefty:) It was fun watching how excited she was and couldn't get it out of the bag. Meanwhile the silly ole dog was barking at her, as if it was excited to see her too. I know that will be one birthday she will always remember. I would totally have an Unwrap Attack if I got an Ipad for Christmas. I am so addicted to my Ipod touch, I just couldn't fathem having the Almighty Ipod touch (yes, thats what I call it).

ReplyDeleteHowever, I will tell you about my niece's unwrap attack moment. Several years ago, my Mom found a pair of long red flapback pajamas at a resale shop. She purchased them and hid them until Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve, after the kids went to bed, my Mom put the flapback jammies under the tree, draped over some of the presents.
When my niece and nephew got up on Christmas morning and started opening their gifts, they were astonished to see the jammies, and my niece exclaimed "Grandma, Santa dropped his drawers under our tree!"
It is now tradition for Santa to leave his jammies under the tree.
As for what would cause an unwrap attack for me? A new Bunn coffee brewer!

We always go to my mother's house for Christmas brunch. With 5 siblings and all their children, it's quite a full house! This particular Christmas, we were all together by the tree unwrapping gifts and I watched as everyone opened theirs...so far, nothing for me to open. Finally we were down to the last present, a tiny box, and it was for me. Everyone watched while I opened the box to find three small red potatoes inside and a note that read "This is just small potatoes, your real present is in the garage". We all went outside and there, with a huge red bow on it, was my present. A cedar chest!! I'd wanted a cedar chest forever and my entire family had chipped in and bought me one for Christmas. They have pictures of me standing there crying and laughing, I was so happy. Not just because it's the present I always wanted, but the immense love that my family put into buying it for me. I'm probably the only person that has a cedar chest that already came packed with memories..before I even put something into it.

One year my husband gave me what I asked for, a nice tea kettle. I almost didn't open the box because, while I wanted it, I didn't need to use it quite yet. But to show him that I really did love it, I opened the box and took it out. Inside the tea kettle were two more boxes from a jewelry store!!!! Talk about EXCITED!!!!

My unwrap attack story is told every year since I was 5. I received hungry hungry hippos for Christmas one year. Once I realized what it was the wrapping paper flew off the box and I held it up in the air and kept yelling "Look everyone...I got hungry hungry hippos!!!" This was proceeded by the very loud popping of the hippo mouths for the rest of the afternoon. :)

My most amazing unwrapattack was almost 4 years ago at Christmas. Our large family was loud and crazy just as ever and things had finally quieted down. My son handed me ONE last little gift in a little midnight blue package with the "Silent Night" verse and frosted angels embellishment. I untied the package top and carefully handled what I THOUGHT was going to be a glass angel, something I had collected for years.
ReplyDeleteInstead , I removed a blue silk cloth that enrobed a delicate baby doll, also dressed in blue. This was my announcement that my GRANDSON would be arriving that Spring! Hunter is now 3, has a wonderful spirit and yes, DEFINITELY is the little angel I had anticipated!
I will never, ever forget as a child in the 80's seeing the unmistakable shape of a Cabbage Patch Kid box under the tree. The wrapping paper never stood a chance against my unwrap attack. This year I'd go crazy for a Chi flat iron!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was younger I took horseback riding lessons. I had been taking lessons for about a year and wanted a horse of my own so badly. That is what I told everyone I wanted for Christmas that year, but didn't really believe I would get one. When Christmas morning came, I opened my gifts and then my horse riding teacher arrived with a gift for me, a horse brush...she told me to go outside, as my parents had a gift for me to go with it outside. A beautiful paint horse was waiting for me. I was in shock and just stared without talking (an amazing feat, if you know me).

We gave my nephew an unwrap attack the year the PS3 came out. We got a bunch of DVDs from the dollar store, wrapped them up and put them in a pile with a PS3 game on the bottom. He opened all the DVDs with a half hearted "thanks" till he got to the bottom and freaked out when he realized what he was getting.

Vaseline has been a favorite item in my home for as long as I can remember...my entire existence! We use it for scrapes, for burns, for dry skin, for squeaky doors.

ReplyDeleteHe unwrapped it and scratched it off. When he genuinely thought he'd won 100K, he ran through the house screaming. It was not pretty telling him it was a very bad joke.
*note: this in no way caused the divorce...lol.

My best unwrap story is from 9 years ago when my husband had me open my gift in front of my whole family and it was an engagement ring and he got on his knee and proposed right in front of everyone....it didn't stop there, though, my next gift was 3/4 carat diamond earrings, and my final gift was a Coach purse with a matching wallet...that was an unwrap attack. This year my daugher will have one when she opens her new laptop from her father and me!!

ReplyDeleteI would have an unwrap attack if I received a Kindle for Christmas. I have been wishing for one for over a yr. I am a Sr Citizen with arthritis in my hands (and body) and holding my wonderful books can cause extra pain after a few minutes. When it is cold the arthritis is worse and even makes sitting at the computer to read a book I have down loaded hard to do because of the pain in my back and legs. With a Kindle I can get comfortable in my recliner and read my books. I have been reading for over 60 yrs and would love to really enjoy reading without so much pain.

My wife really wants one of those home soda making machines. I'm on the fence about getting one though because I imagine that she'll use it a few times for the novelty of it and then pack it away in favor of the convenience (despite the added expense) of buying cans and bottles just like she does now.
