Holiday Side Recipes with Country Crock + Giveaway!

The holiday season is my favorite time of the year. I love cooking so during this time of year, I try and find new recipes to try.

One of my favorite side dishes for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner is squash. It can be butternut, acorn, yellow or any other kind of squash. Squash is such a great ingredient because you can do almost anything with it.

This year, I found a recipe on the Country Crock site for Baked Spice Squash that I tried for Thanksgiving dinner. It looked easy to make and it looked so tasty, I had to try it.

Here is the recipe:
Baked Spiced Squash
Ingredients:
* 2 Tbsp. Country Crock Spread
* 2 Tbsp. pure maple syrup or pancake syrup
* 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
* 1/8 tsp. ground black pepper
* 1 medium butternut squash (I used one medium acorn squash)
Directions:
* Preheat over to 400 degrees. Lightly grease baking sheet; set aside
* Combine all ingredients except squash in small bowl. Arrange squash cut side up o baking sheet; brush with 1/2 of the spread mixture.
* Bake 45 minutes or until squash is tender, brushing with remaining Spread mixture halfway through cooking.

Of course, since my style of cooking is Random Willynillyness, I didn't totally follow the recipe but that's how I roll. I actually used an acorn squash because I prefer that. I also put the Spread mixture in the squash. I added a pinch of salt and a pinch of brown sugar. The squash came out delicious. I would recommend this recipe to anyone who loves squash and wants a new and different side dish!.

I was actually able to scoop out the squash mixture out of the squash and make it easier to serve. It was sweet and savory. I also loved that the Country Crock spread was easy to use. It was also tasty. Plus, by using Country Crock, I saved calories and fat!

If you love squash, you need to try this recipe. And remember to pick up some Country Crock for any type of recipe. I used it with my rolls and with my mashed potatoes as well! There are so many delicious recipes that you can use Country Crock in.   Yummo.

To help make your holidays better, Country Crock has provided me with a wonderful gift basket for one lucky reader. The gift pack includes:

* 1 coupon for a FREE tub of Country Crock
* Veggie preparation tips
* Four Country Crock holiday recipes (Holiday Broccoli Saute, Baked Spiced Squash, Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Cauliflower, Easy Creamed Corn)
* Vegetable Chop and Measure
* Calphalon® Contemporary Nonstick Bronze 12" Frypan

Kleenex Share Packs ~ Softness Worth Sharing + Giveaway! #kleenexSWS

I work at a school so it is inevitable that I will get sick sometime during the year. Sometimes, I get sick a few times a year regardless of what I do to avoid the germy children. Just last month, I caught a pretty bad cold.

It was terrible. I had a runny nose and was sneezing up a storm. I started to catch a cough so I had to rely on some old home remedies from my abuelita and mami. The first thing I did was to grab my Vicks vapo-rub. I remember when I was a little girl, my abuelita used to grab the Vicks and slather it all over our bodies and then wrap up up in jammies and make us stay in bed. It worked.

So I decided to do the same thing now. It worked. I also made my mami's favorite remedy, hot lemonade. She would heat lemon water and add honey. Then she would give us two aspirins and make us drink her tea and go to bed. And for headaches, my mami used to give me a cloth that was drenched in rubbing alcohol and put it on my forehead. Believe it or not, that works too!

Of course, when I have a cold, I always reach for Kleenex tissues. They are the only brand I have at home and at work. Why? Because they are the best tissues around. My mami and grandmother used to buy Kleenex as well. They are a family tradition.

And boy, did I need Kleenex this last bout with a cold. I literally went through 2 boxes at home and one at work! Kleenex, Vicks, alcohol and hot lemonade are the ways I make myself feel better. Plus, it also makes me feel loved when I think back on all those times I was a little girl and had two wonderful women in my life who took care of me. I am glad their remedies live on still because they make me feel better whether I am sick or not.

It's those memories or small gestures that remind me I was and am cared for now. Something small can make you feel a lot better.

Now you can make someone you love feel loved by sharing a little softness with them this cold and flu season. Every year at this time, Kleenex allows you to send a little love to someone by sharing a Kleenex Care Pack (includes lip balm, 1 oz. hand sanitizer, coupon booklet, Kleenex® Brand Share Pack, Kleenex® Brand Slim Pack, and card to download four songs from the Universal Music artists) or a  Kleenex Share Pack .

When you buy a specially marked bundle or box of  of Kleenex® Brand tissue, you will find a code on the package. Head over to the Kleenex site and enter your code and send someone a Kleenex Care or Share pack and show them that you are thinking of them.

This is such a wonderful idea. It is a wonderful gesture for those friends and family that you care about. Who wouldn't love receiving a reminder that they are loved? So share a little softness this season and send someone a Kleenex Care or Share Pack. I know they will love it!

I also have one Kleenex Share Pack for one lucky reader. You can keep it or share it. It is up to you. Just enter on the Rafflecopter widget below!

Doug and Debbie Dusterson are a fearless new dusting duo. Created by Endust, Doug and Debbie show us how to get things clean then start enjoying life. They use Endust because it’s fast and easy, that it helps them move on to more important things. They’ve even discovered ways to turn dusting drudgery into debauchery.

You have to go over to the Endust site and check out the latest Endust-inspired antics of the Dustersons and their family.Watch the first newly release Endust video here. Endust will be adding new videos the next few months!

A man who cleans is a big turn on! I wish hubby would do it more often. I will have to show him the video and hand him the Endust.

But I totally understand the Dustersons' dilemma. There are weekends when I want to go out and do something fun but I am stuck at home cleaning. Dusting is one of my least favorite chores. But Endust does make it easier. All you do is spray and wipe and it's done! Endust also works on multiple surfaces. Endust will clean wood, tile, non-fabric blinds and floors!

Not only does Endust make my life easier when cleaning but it also saves me money because I do not have buy other cleaning products! Endust also removes dust, allergens, fingerprints and smudges. It leaves no wax or residue!!

So take a minute ad watch the Dustersons in action! It will definitely make you take a second and ask if you are taking too much worrying about cleaning and not enjoying life!  So remember: “Endust, Start Living”.

Sara Lee Review and Giveaway! 3 Winners

This Holiday season, I am always so busy cooking the main meal that sometimes dessert goes on the back burner. I am not much of a baker because, frankly, baking requires me to cook with a recipe and I am not good with that.

So I like to keep ready made desserts around the house so I can have them ready in a pinch. One of the brands I always keep around is Sara Lee Desserts. Sara Lee has so many wonderful varieties of pound cake and other sweets that will make your holidays so sweet.

Sara Lee has recently introduced new flavors of Pound Cake. Here are some of the flavors:

Sara Lee Lemon Pound Cake - The Newest Variety in more than a decade, made with real lemon juice
Sara Lee Butter Pound Cake - Classic, buttery taste with an updated recipe to be more moist
Sara Lee Light & Dreamy Pound Cake - Reduced fat alternative that contains 80 calories per serving with 100% less cholesterol and 55%  less fat than Butter Pound Cake
Sara Lee Pound Cake Slices - Introduced earlier this year, these single-serve, individually packaged slices are available in Original and Double Chocolate

I absolutely love Sara Lee Butter Pound Cake. I always have it around the house. Hubby actually love the Sara Lee Cheesecake. So this holiday season I had both in the house.

I love the cheesecake as well and I love it with fresh fruit because it brightens up the rich slice of cheese cake. Hubby loves his with a homemade berry sauce. I also love my pound cake. This year, I made a pound cake sundae by adding a little chocolate ice cream, whipped cream and nuts. It was delicious!

Remember that if you are not a dessert maker, like me, have some Sara Lee on hand to make a tasty and quick dessert! Just add some fresh fruit, ice cream or anything that you feel like adding because it will always delicious.

If you are creative with recipes, then be to enter the Sara Lee Share the Sweetness Recipe Contest! Amy Michelle Magnolia Bag Review and Giveaway!

I recently had the opportunity to review the Magnolia Bag from Amy Michelle through the Latina Lifestyle Bloggers Collective #LLBLOG Holiday Gift Guide. Amy Michelle is a company specializing in the creation and marketing of designer quality, fashionable tote bags and accessories. The bags are designed with the needs of a modern woman.

The Magnolia bag I received is a faux leather diaper bag. Not sure why I need a diaper bag because I have no babies but the bag actually works well as a regular everyday purse or travel bag. The color is Plum and while I would have preferred black, this is dark enough that it works with almost every color. It is also stylish enough to work with any outfit.

The bag features gold hardware detailing and lots of room. Since I do not need a diaper bag, I pulled out the changing pad that comes with the bag and had a big giant pouch for storage. Basically, Amy Michelle bags feature a Mom's section in front, baby's organization in the middle and separate changing area in the back. But the bag's special features will work for anyone.

The lining is not fabric but a plastic type lining. I think this is probably because if you are using this bag as a diaper bag you want to be able to clean it up. The lining is also antimicrobial which makes sense for a diaper bag. I love it because if I use this for work, I can put my lunch in the purse and if it spills, I can clean it easily.

I placed my net book into the bag where the the diaper pad was and it fit perfectly. I think a 15-17 inch laptop would slip in perfectly as well. This makes it great for work. I know that this would be perfect on days I need to go off campus for meetings because I can slip in my papers, phones and notepads into the purse without a problem.

The inside of the bag features pouches to store water or baby bottles. These little pouches are also great for phones. I know I can never find my phone when I need it. But if I slip it into one of these pouches, I can easily find it! It also has handy dandy credit card slots and key ring holder. I especially love the key ring holder because I am forever and a day losing my keys. It also has 2 external key ring holders that can be used to hold pacifiers or anything else you need to find easily.

I also love that it has metal feet on the bottom. I always hate placing my handbags on the floor but the metal feet provide protection from the bag getting damaged and protection from unsanitary floors. I liked the double straps and found them quite comfortable. When I filled the bag with my stuff, it felt as if the straps were pretty strong and didn't cut into my shoulder.

This bag is prefect for traveling. I always travel with a tote bag and this is better than the one I use because it is the perfect size to slip in under the seat. It also offers those organizational compartments that would allow me to slip in my passport, e-reader, snacks and wallet. Because it is so organized, I wouldn't have a problem finding what I need.

I really liked this bag. I think it is stylish and cute and so very practical. If you are a mom to be, this would be the perfect addition to your baby registry or holiday gift list. My friend, Rachel, is about to have a baby and now I know where I am going to shop for her!!

If you just want a cool bag with lots of space that will travel well and look good, then this should go on your Christmas list. This would make the perfect holiday gift for any woman on your list.

I have a great giveaway for one lucky reader!! One of you will win an Amy Michelle bag of your. YAY! This is a short giveaway so enter NOW on the Rafflecopter widget below.

5 Tips to Getting Your Car Ready For Winter – Plus Winter Emergency Kit Giveaway!

It's almost winter time and that means it is time to get ready for the snow and ice. Personally, I hate winter. Sure, it's beautiful when it snows but it is not pretty when I have to drive in it.  I like to take precautions with my little car. I make sure the tires are in good shape. I make sure to put supplies in my car in case something happens.

Thanks to the International Carwash Association (ICA) I have some great tips to get your car ready for the winter. ICA through its Wash With WaterSavers consumer awareness campaign, is committed to promoting the importance of using eco-friendly carwashes that use less fresh water and return clean water back into the environment.

Here are the tips:
1. Wash and wax your car at a professional car wash – It may seem counter intuitive to get your car nice and shiny for what’s often the sloppiest season, but a thorough wash can remove harmful compounds that may cause damage when mixed with sand and road salt. Experts from the International Carwash Association also recommend a coat of wax for an extra layer of protection from the elements.

· Professional car washes can also save up to 20 percent of the amount of water you’d use by washing your car at home. They do this by treating and reusing their water, rather than releasing toxic chemicals and grime into the storm drains, which can often occur with pavement washing. Check out Wash With Water Savers to see how professional car washes save water and help prevent pollution.

2. Check fluids – Check your coolant to make sure you have enough, as you’ll be left without heat if you don’t. Consult your owner’s manual to find the correct blend if you need to add more. It’s never a bad idea to keep extra coolant in your trunk in case of an emergency. Don’t forget about extra wiper fluid, either. It’s not expensive, so stock up!

3. Winter emergency kit – In addition to stocking your car with a scraper and brush, it’s a good idea to include a few provisions in case you get stranded in snowy and cold conditions. Pack extra blankets, hats and gloves, high-energy snacks like granola bars, drinking water and a first-aid kit. We have created an exclusive Winter Emergency Kit for you and one of your blog readers.

4. Test your battery – The next time you have the car in for an oil change, ask the mechanic to test your battery to make sure it can provide enough starting power once the temperature plummets.

5. Check your wipers – When sloppy weather hits, you’ll want to make sure you have strong wiper blades to see through the elements. Checking your wiper blades for wear and replacing them if needed can prevent huge visibility headaches once snow and sleet arrive.
These are great tips. I would definitely suggest that you make sure your tires have good tread on them so they can hug the road. Also, keep your tires at the correct tire pressure. The other tip I would offer is to make sure that you always have more than a half tank of gas in the car just in case of any emergency.

I am hoping that it doesn't snow too much this winter because I really dislike driving in the snow. I am a California girl and it's still pretty scary to me! But these tips and my new emergency kit are sure to keep me safer this winter!

Thanks to the folks at ICA, I have a wonderful Emergency Car Kit for one lucky reader!  This is a great kit to pop into your car during the winter or summer. It is surely going to be a lifesaver if something happens. Here is what is included in the kit:

* 32 oz. WaterSavers branded water bottle
* Carabiner key chain
* Medium flashlight
* 2 heavy duty AA batteries
* 19-piece first aid kit
* Survival tool
* Pocket knife
* Emergency poncho
* Emergency blanket
* 2 tea light candles
* Safety matches
* Survival instruction card
* Mesh sack

Finish Sticky Dish Challenge #FinishRevolution

I was recently given the challenge of cooking up a messy and sticky dish and then using Finish Quantum tabs to get it clean. Finish Quantum has a 3 chamber technology that releases agents that breaks down food residue. It has no wrapper. You just pop it into the dishwasher and it is done.

I already use Finish tabs. It is one of the brands hubby buys. You see, I am not the dishwasher in the family, he is. I am mainly the cook. To begin the challenge, I decided to make scalloped potatoes with cheese to test the strength of of the Finish tabs.

When I make scalloped potatoes my dishes always come out messy and hard to clean. Hubby always have to soak the casserole dish before it even goes into the dishwasher.

My recipe is an easy one. First I make my famous cheese sauce. I use this cheese sauce for everything from hashbrown casserole, mac and cheese and anything else that needs sauce. I make a roux with flour, butter, milk and beer. I add spices: salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and ground mustard. Then I add cheese. In this case, I used cheddar cheese. But you can use any type of cheese.

I then sliced up the potatoes an started layering in the dish with some chopped onions, salt and pepper and the cheese sauce. After that was done, I popped it into the oven to bake for about one hour at 350 degrees.

When the scalloped potatoes came out of the onion they were crispy and cheesy and the casserole dish was a mess. When I handed over the dish to my hubby, he was about to pre-rinse it but part of the challenge was not to pre-rinse. He said there was no way these dish would come clean. He wanted no part of it but he put it into the dishwasher. We put it in just as it looks like in the picture to the right.

I have to admit that I knew the mess was way to sticky and messy to get clean with one wash and no pre-rinsing. I was expecting the dish to come out super duper dirty. Okay, here are the results.

While it did not come out perfectly clean, it came out a lot cleaner than I expected. Hubby was pretty surprised as well. So did Finish win the Sticky Dish Challenge? I say yes. Let's be honest, I made sure to make the dish super super messy and messier than it would usually be. It could have been the dishwasher and not the dish washing tabs. In the end, I think it did a great job and I was happy with the outcome!

I say yes. It actually did pretty good. I will continue using Finish tabs because I find it a great product! So there you have it. If you want a great dish washing detergent, you need to join the Finish Revolution!

Johnson & Johnson Box of Goodies Giveaway!

As part of the Entre Tu Y Yo* Ambassadorship, I have had the opportunity to review several Johnson & Johnson products. It has been fantastic because I already use most of the products and, the ones I hadn't tried before, I love. It has also been great because I have been able to give away a box full of goodies to three lucky readers.

I have to say that I am a little sad this is my last Johnson & Johnson post. I have enjoyed all the products I have been reviewing.

My favorite products have been the Aveeno products. The shampoo and conditioner are definitely now must buys in my household. Even hubby likes them. Band-Aids have always been in our house and will continue being part of the must have products I buy.

Listerine has always been a product that I buy off and on. I am glad they have the Cool Mint flavor because the original Listerine was always a little harsh. Funny thing is that my abuelita loved using the Original Listerine!

The Lubriderm lotion has come in handy these last few weeks with the weather turning colder. It is such a great way to keep my skin moist. I get alligator skin during the winter and the Lubriderm has been able to keep my skin under control.

So there you have it. And here you have one more chance to win a Johnson & Johnson box of goodies like the one in the picture above. Let me tell you that my first two winners emailed me say they love their prize! So if you want one last shot at the Johnson & Johnson products, just enter on the Rafflecopter widget below!

See's Candies Review and Giveaway!

When I was little, one of my favorite things was when my grandmother would take me and my sister to the mall. She would come every other week and it was always such an exciting time.

One of the reasons was that she would always treat us to lunch and a movie. Then she would always buy us something like a new piece of clothing or new toy. She was always fun to be around and we enjoyed our Saturday outings.

She would also buy us some sort of treat like ice cream, an Orange Julius drink or See's Candies! My favorite treats were always See's Candies. Oh how we loved going into the See's Candies store. It smelled wonderful. It made our eyes go big and there were so many choices.

Sometimes I would get a piece of chocolate but my favorite all time See's Candies treat was definitely the See's Chocolate Lollypops. I loved them and still do to this day. See, I figured that if I got a piece of chocolate it would last one or two bites and I was done. But with a Lollypop, I could satisfy my chocolate need for a long time.

I would pop that Lollypop into my mouth and savor it for about 10-15 minutes unless I got crazy and bit right into it. So we would continue our shopping and I had my Lollypop in my mouth. Yummo.

To this day, I crave the Lollypops and all See's Candies for that matter. When I moved to Florida, it was not fun discovering that there was no See's Candies. Everywhere I lived there have been no See's Candies. Luckily, I can shop online!

See's Candies has some really great products. With the holidays coming up, I always make sure I go on the See's site and check out their gifts. They have some great fall gifts that would make great hostess gifts for Thanksgiving. With Christmas coming up, I always have a list of people who love See's.

I received the Fall Favorites Tower that includes Truffles and a POUND of assorted See's chocolates! These did not last because hubby loves See's Candies. He never had them until one day we flew to Los Angeles and I made him stop at See's so I could have my Lollypops! He fell in love with See's ever since.

I also received some yummy Orange Twists candies that are perfect to set out as treat on Thanksgiving. And I got a box of my beloved LollyPops that to this day. I know that See's Candies are my go to gift. For years, I would send my grandmother, until her death, I would send my grandmother See's Candies for her birthday and Christmas.

See's is the perfect place for gifts for everyone in the family. Whether it's your abuelita, your mom, siblings, co-workers, See's has something for everyone. he also have business gifts for your clients. So head on over to See's and see what tickles your taste buds!

And thanks to See's Candies, I have a $25 gift certificate to help you out! All you have to do is enter on the Rafllecopter widget below!! WOO!

Tuttorosso Tomatoes Review and Giveaway!

I love to cook but sometimes on weekdays the thought of making dinner is too much to bear. I have a 45 minute commute and when I get home, the last thing I want to is get in the kitchen and think of something to make. I have learned how to make some fast and quick meals. One of my favorite go to meals is spaghetti and meat sauce.

I love making spaghetti because I can make a tasty meal under 30 minutes. It is low stress and always comforting and delicious. I used to use bottle pasta sauce but when I found out how much sugar and sodium is in the sauce, I started using canned tomatoes because I can control the ingredients.

Recently, I was given the chance to try Tuttorosso Tomatoes. I have never tried them before which is surprising because Tuttorosso Tomatoes are super popular in North Carolina, where I live.   Here is a little info on Tuttorosso Tomatoes:
As company background, the Red Gold company (which makes the Tuttorosso brand) has been around since the 1940s focused on growing local in the Midwest (Indiana, Michigan and Ohio) where true seasons impact the flavor of tomatoes. The Midwest, while it's cold in the winter, has the perfect growing season for tomatoes, perfect angle of the sun, perfect temps -- and even the winter is good for tomatoes, as it breaks up the soil for tiny root systems.

When I came home the other day, it was one of those "I Don't  Want TO Cook" days. I was tired and wasn't sure if I had anything to cook. But I saw the Tuttorosso Tomatoes I had received, found some ground beef in the fridge and started to cook up a storm.

For this meal, I decided to use the Tuttorosso Crushed Tomatoes with Basil. I chose this because the tomatoes had basil. My basil plants are dead and I wanted the basil in the taste. I took the meat and browned it with some onions and garlic. Then I added the tomatoes and a little red wine. I let that simmer for about 30 minutes and then added a knob of butter and a little olive oil to finish off the sauce.

In the meantime, I started the pasta. Once the pasta was done, I out it into the sauce and then added some shaved Parmesan cheese and some garlic toast to finish off the meal. It was that easy. It was also really tasty. I really loved this tomato sauce. The tomatoes tasted fresh. A lot fresher than the usual canned tomatoes I use.

I will definitely being buying this brand from now on. I am glad I was able to discover Tuttorosso. I cannot wait for the next meal with Tuttorosso tomatoes.
