I bet you are like me. I am always scrambling to get power. Power for my phone, power for my laptop, net book and cameras.

It never fails when I am out traveling that my phone or camera will start dying and I start running around trying to find an outlet. My electronics have died on more than one occasion especially conferences and trips.

I recently got a Droid 4 and although I love it, I don't love that the battery life is shorter than I would like. If I leave it on too long, the battery drains quickly and I am out of luck. It is frustrating when you need to tweet out a picture or Facebook an adventure and you phone is dead and there is no outlet to be found!

When the people at Geekorize sent me the new Nomad 7 Solar Panel by Goal Zero to review, I was excited because this baby is power all the time and on the go. All you need is a little sunshine.

I didn't have a chance to use my Nomad 7 charger until our trip to California and Nevada. I figured it was the perfect time to review a product that runs on the sun since we were going to be in Palm Springs and Las Vegas. And the week we were there, there was going to be a lot of sun and hot weather.

I have to admit that I wasn't convinced this would work. I am all about solar power but the Nomad 7 Solar Panel seemed pretty small and I had never used anything solar powered except a calculator.

The first day we were at the Renaissance Esmeralda resort, we decided to do nothing but sit at the pool all day. Of course, I was using my Sony Reader, tweeting, emailing and facebooking throughout the day. After a while I noticed that my phone was running at 60% and knew I had to charge it soon or else it was going to die before the day was over.

It was the perfect place to test out the Nomad 7. I pulled it out, placed it on the lounge chair next to us and plugged in my phone. It was easy to use. The nomad is like a tablet or a book. You unfold it and make sure it is getting sun.

I loved that it has a convenient pocket where you can slip in your device. This is great if you have to move around and even better to help keep your device out of the sun. While the solar panels must be in a sunny place, your device should not. So the pocket keeps it safe from overheating.

I was able to use my USB cord with the Nomad 7. I plugged in my phone and plugged it onto the Nomad's 12 volt adapter, that is attached to the panels. I immediately saw that my phone was charging. After half and hour I went to check on the charge and realized that it was not charging.

Luckily, Tom was there and he asked if I had left my phone on. I had. There were all sorts of programs running as well. He suggested that I either stop all the programs or turn off the phone and then charge it. I took his advice and turned off the phone. Then I left the Nomad 7 in full sun. Yes, I am sort of techie challenged.

After swimming, sunning and having lunch, I went to check on the phone. It had been about 2 hours and when I turned on the phone, it had charged 30% and was up to 90%! It had worked. This was handy because I was then able to start using my phone again. When I was done, I plugged it back into the Nomad and let it get fully charged. All this while I was relaxing by the pool, in the shade.

It did charge slowly but that is because the solar panels do not have the power of an outlet. But if you are traveling this is actually a great product. I think this device would be best for hikers or campers. Can you imagine not needing to find electricity and still being able to charge your devices? It's great. I know I will always slip the Nomad 7 into my luggage when traveling. It is not always easy to find an outlet when you need it.

Plus the Nomad is lightweight and skinny enough to slip into a purse or backpack. It can be easily attached to a backpack because it has reflective nylon cords all around. The Velcro closure keeps it closed tight and safe if you decide to keep your device in the pocket inside.

It was the perfect charger for being poolside as well. I not only used it at the Renaissance Esmeralda resort but also used it when we stayed at the Hotel California! I was able to charge my phone and my sister's phone at the same time while we were lounging by the pool.

Would I recommend this product? Yes. I think if you need easy charging, this is a great product to have. All you need is the sun. If you love hiking and doing outdoor stuff, this is the product for you as well. I am thrilled to have been able to indulge my geekiness with this product. I am usually not that techie but I am a geek for these products!

Sweetness on the Go ~ Nevella To Go Review - #sweetnesstogo

When it comes to sugar, I can say I am an addict. I love anything sweet. I know it’s not a good thing but lately I have been trying to cut back. I cut back on the candy, soda and sweets. I have even cut down on the sugar I use when cooking.

I already use sweetener in my drinks. So when I was approached to review Nevella To Go, I knew I had to try it! I am always looking for new ways to cut back on sugar.

I received three types of the Nevella To Go: monk fruit, sucralose and stevia. What I love about the Nevella To Go is that the sweeteners are zero calorie, zero carbs and are in liquid form. They also come in a portable package.

This is great news because I hate going out to a restaurant and  not having my usual sweetener or any sweetener at all. This has happened to me one too many times. I used to keep the little packages of sweetener in my purse until one day they exploded and my purse was covered in white powder.

It was a little awkward trying to explain that to everyone. And my purse got ruined. I stopped carrying my own packets and hoped for the best when I was traveling or eating out. But with Nevella, I can pop one of the little bottles into my purse and not worry about spillage. I love that.

I enjoyed all three of them. I already use a combination of the Splenda or stevia. I find I like them both. The Nevella Stevia  is tasty and works to sweeten my hot tea. I loved the sucralose to go because it reminded me of the sweetener I already use. I love this in my coffee.

The Monk Fruit was delicious. It tastes a little bit like honey and I love squirting a little into my water bottle. I like drinking a lot of water but sometimes it gets boring and I don’t drink enough. One squeeze of the monk fruit helps me maintain my water regiment and satisfies my need for sweets!

But the best thing about Nevella, besides the taste, is that the liquid form is so easy to use. I don’t have to struggle with waiting for anything to dissolve. That is huge especially when I use it to sweeten my iced tea or water. One little squeeze into my coffee, iced tea, lemonade or hot tea and that’s it.

It is that time of year again. Time when my skin revolts and starts asking for some moisture! The cold weather and dry air makes for what I call Alligator Skin and Snake Skin Lips.

They crack, dry and peel. Yes, peel. It is not a good thing. And if I do not keep them moisturized, it is not a pretty sight. There are times they get so bad that they swell up as well. Of course, I get that Angelina Jolie look but not in a good way.

We live in the mountains so it gets windy and cold in the fall and it snows in the winter. I try to avoid being out in the elements but if I have to shovel the driveway or walk in the cold, I want something that really helps my lips. Time for a Change?

Sometimes I wonder if I am in the right business. I have been a fundraiser for over 20 years. I love it but sometimes I long for a job that is less stressful or more fruitful to my wallet.

I think part of my having doubts or wanting something different is because I blog. Blogging opened up a new world to me and sometimes I wonder if I could make a living blogging. The only thing that keeps me from trying is that I like having a regular paycheck and benefits!

But I have been investigating new avenues. I have talked to friends, done research on line and checked out websites like Noomii where you can get in contact with career coaches who will help you with a new career path.

I had never ever thought about talking with a career coach but after a little digging, I realized that is a great way to see if you are really ready for a career change or if you are already in the job you need to be in. I think getting an objective point of view really helps.

I know many of my friends who could have used a little career counseling. Some left their jobs without thinking about the implications. If they had spoken to someone, then maybe they would have made different choices.

When and if I decide to see if I need a career change, I think I might seek out a career counselor. For now, I am sticking with fundraising because I really enjoy it. I enjoy that I am helping an organization. I enjoy that I get to meet so many different people from every walk of life.

I guess everyone goes through a period where they reevaluate their career choices. Tell me, have you ever thought about changing careers or visiting a career counselor?

Johnson & Johnson Review and Giveaway ~ Part 3

It's funny because for as long as I can remember, I have always used Band-Aids for any cut, scrape or boo boo I have ever had. When we were little, there was no other brand of bandages in my house. When I grew up, I continued our family tradition of buying Band-Aids.

I was a tomboy when I was a little girl. There was no tree I didn't climb. There was no game I didn't play. And there was no one I wouldn't fight if they picked on me or my sister. Because of this, I was always running around with scrapes, bruises and cuts.

Band-Aids were the only brand my mami bought because there was no other brand that could withstand the terror that was little Caro. Sure, she tried other brands but they would come off almost as soon as they were put on because the minute my cuts and scrapes were cleaned and bandaged, I was out there getting into trouble again.


I wore my Band-Aids proudly. I also would get into trouble because I used to love wearing Band-Aids on all my fingers when I cut one. My mami would clean my cuts and put a Band-Aid. Once she would shoo me off, I would sneak back into the bathroom and proceed to add Band-Aids to all my fingers.

I thought it looked cool. But my mami didn't. Suffice it to say, I always got in trouble when I did that!

As I grew older, it never occurred to me to even consider buying another brand of bandages. My hubby, however, has bought other brands because they are more inexpensive. I didn't like them and I had to stop that immediately. He has never bought another brand ever since.

It's funny that brand loyalty starts when we are very young. I know that's where my love of Band-Aid came from. I love all the different type of Band-Aid they offer. When I was little there was basically only one type of Band-Aid. But now I can get tiny one, huge ones, fabric ones or plastic ones. I especially love the specialty Band-aids because they when I have a cut in an awkward spot, it actually fits.

I have to confess that every so often I even buy the Band-Aids with cartoon characters because I never had them as a kid. Don't judge me, people, don't judge. Why shouldn't us adults have a little fun every once in a while.

When I need shoes, one of the places I go to is Payless. I love shopping there because Payless always has cute shoes at a great price. I find shoes for every season. In fact, I have to go check out the boots soon because winter is coming.

Because I live in the boonies, it isn't often I get to a Payless store. So when I was contacted to review some new Payless products, I was surprised that I was offered body and beauty products! Payless now has a body and beauty line that is perfect to keep your skin ultra hydrated. From have products that range from luxe lotions, to refreshing perfumes, and great lip glosses. The new line was introduced in September!

I was super excited to receive samples of the new products because I am a fiend for bath products. I love using them because this is an inexpensive way to pamper myself during the year.  I received some Unforgettable Moments bath products and some SXY lip gloss.

The Unforgettable Moments Cotton Blossom and Honeysuckle Body Lotion and Body Mist were divine. those are my kind of scents. They were fragrant but not to fragrant. The clean cotton smell is something I always look for. It has a nice fresh scent. the lotion left my skin smooth and silky. The body mist allowed me to carry the scent on for the rest of the day.

I loved the lip gloss as well. I wear nothing but lip gloss so these products were up my alley. They left my lips very kissable! The colors are great.

I also saw that part of the Payless line included body butters! I love body butter so I must head over to Payless soon and try them out.

Would I recommend these products? Yes. I really liked them. I love that they are affordable. With the holidays coming up, these would make a perfect stocking stuffer for any beauty diva on your list. I have a few friends who I know will be receiving these products because they love bath products like I do.

Those are some telling statistics. Nowadays, I see so many younger women worrying about how they look that they do all sorts of crazy things to fit what they think is beauty. It is sad. I don't have kids but I understand the anxiety that "not fitting in" can bring.

I work at a school and I am good friends with one of my friends daughters, who is a typical teenager. She is a pretty girl. She is smart and has so much going for her. Oftentimes, she comes to talk to me because I don't treat her like a little girl but my equal. We have talked about all sorts of subjects. Of course, I always try to get her mom's consent and never offer an crazy advice. But I am honest and real with her.

She is not stick thin and one day she came and said she was getting fat. I tried to explain to her that she was a healthy size and that she was a beautiful person, inside and out. I told her that the pictures she sees in magazines and on TV are not realistic.

I tried to relate to her that if you worry so much about the your outside, that you forget to nurture your inside. I told her that beauty fades sooner or later.. I told her about my struggles when I was her age and how I got over it. I told her that if you are beautiful on the inside that she would never have trouble finding friends or love. I also told her that friendships not based on superficiality will always last longer.

It is tough trying to convince a teenager of all this because at that age they don't always understand. They are pressured from all sides to conform to a certain standard. I have talked to her several times and I think I got through. But other times, I know that she might find herself in a situation that she will forget my advice.

The funny thing is that I also have these talks with women closer to my age as well. I think we are all somehow trying to fit into the world and the easiest way to is to conform to what others think we should be. I have always fought against that because if we try to be something we are not, we will always falter. People always tell me I am one of the most confident person they know. Trust me, it took me years to find myself and trust in who I am.

I hope that you take the time to talk to your daughters or friend's daughters or your friends and let them know that beauty is only skin deep. It is important to make sure that girls understand this. I am all about anything that empowers women and especially teen girls. I think nowadays there is so much pressure to fit into an unrealistic ideal of what women should be. That leads to so many problems especially in young girls. So any program that allows women to feel good about themselves, whatever size or shape, is a good thing for everybody.

Besides the taste, this is why I like SunChips. They offer me a healthy alternative to regular chips. I love that SunChips have less salt than other chips. I also love that SunChips have no preservatives because I have been trying to stay away from food that have preservatives. But hey, I still need good snacks as well.

I received a few flavors to sample. I had already tried the Original flavor. I tried the Garden Salsa and the Harvest Cheddar and they were very tasty. I loved the Cheddar because I am a fiend for cheese. I need to try the other flavors as well. I know these will make a great addition to my tailgating parties!
