Free Country Winter Coat Review!

Let's be honest folks, I hate winter. I really do. I do not like the cold, hate snow and long for Spring and Summer when I can wear my sandals and shorts and not feel cold all the time.

But I live in the mountains of Western North Carolina so I have to put up with winter. It hasn't snowed much in the last two years but we recently had some snow. It does get very chilly though even when it does not snow. So I stock up on the winter clothes.

I have a winter coat that is a few years old. It is out of style and not very warm on those cold winter mornings that hit 7 degrees. So I was excited to get an offer to review a winter coat from Free Country.

Here is a little info about Free Country:
Since 1990, Free Country has manufactured casual outerwear and active wear inspired by a modern, active lifestyle and has emerged as a power in the apparel industry with a look and spirit that stands on its own. We take a different approach to outerwear by creating compelling designs through a fusion of active performance and fashion. The driving force behind Free Country’s success began with its founder, Ira Schwartz, who found inspiration in his own active lifestyle of outdoor sports and especially skiing.

From the beginning, Ira had a vision “to market and merchandise a lifestyle which reflects the philosophy of doing one’s own thing – creating authentic outerwear with a not-too-serious attitude, that people will have fun wearing.”

I will be honest and say I never heard of Free Country until I was contacted by the company. When I went on its website, I was impressed. They had so many items to choose from. They have outerwear for men, women, children and they even offer swimwear as well.

I loved that they had plus size clothing for curvy girls like me. I choose the Women's Plus Size Zephyr Power Down Jacket in Fossil to review.

It looked cute online but I wasn't sure what to expect. But once it arrived, I was thrilled. The outer shell was soft and silky. The coat is filled with natural down feathers so it is not heavy at all. But it is really soft and comfy. The quilting is excellent.

The coat comes with a detachable faux fur trimmed hood. I love fur hoods. It also has the softest lining that is called butter pile lining. It is very soft. The coat has a double zip front closure and airtouch bib. It also has two side pockets with a snap to keep your valuables inside.

This is a great coat if that is all it had but there is more. The sleeves are lined with the same soft butter pile and end in hand gaithers that you can slip you hands into to keep warm. I LOVE this feature. It's like having half gloves. This will keep my hands super duper warm when I am out in the cold.

But wait, there is more. The coolest features of this coat are on the inside. It offers a phone pocket, music pocket and a basket pocket. I love these features. The basket pocket is large enough to put valuables and it has a phone pocket attached to it so you can slip in your phone and keep it safe and sound.

The music pocket is higher up near the breast area of the coat. You can slip in your iPod or other device and the coat offers a cord outlet so you can run your earphones through. It also has a cord loop to keep the cords from getting all tangled.

The coat is wind and water resistant. I was able to try my coat out in the snow. Snow fell on the coat and it dried pretty fast. It was so warm and comfy as well. I loved the fit of the coat as well. I love the coat length. I like the waist can be cinched if needed.

I stayed super duper warm outside and it was about 28 degrees. What can I say? This is a great coat. The price is only $90 because it is on sale from $170. Even at $170 it is a great price for this coat. I might hate winter but now I will stay warmer and be stylish this winter with my new Free Country Zephyr coat.
