Exit the Highway for Summer Giveaway! Win a $50 Visa Card!

Are you taking a road trip this summer? If so, why not exit the highway and go for a little adventure. Take a little time out from driving to exit and spend time discovering a hidden treasure, a scenic route or spend some time in nature.

We do this all the time. When we take road trips we make sure look at the map and see if there is someplace we can stop and check out. Sometimes, it is a cheesy roadside attraction, a funky restaurant,  a historic site or something amazing.

When we were in Northern California one year, we were driving and decided to get off the highway and check out the scenic route. It was fantastic. We ended up on a road lined with Giant Redwoods. We decided to stop and walk into the forest and it was the most amazing site ever. This picture is me walking through the forest in search of something amazing. To this day, that little adventure was one of the best we have had.  It was all because we decided to get off the highway and take some time for us.

Now Toyota and Audubon are teaming up to make sure you "Exit the Highway" and find some wonderful adventures. You can visit the site and check out the "Nature Near You" map to see what nature is near you or close to where you are traveling.

You might not realize how many hidden gems are nearby. In fact, a new survey conducted by the National Audubon Society and Toyota reveals that 85% of Americans wish they could spend more time outside relaxing in nature and 79% of us are willing to drive up to 100 miles for a new scenic destination or nature experience! That sounds so much like us. We are always up for an adventure!

The best part is if you visit the site, you can take the pledge and, if you do, you could win a Prius V! I already took the pledge because I want the Prius!! You can also gain extra entries when you share your photos, stories, and nature destinations with others. So make sure to share your story or photo on the "Exit the Highway" site. Those extra entries might get you that new Prius!

What I love is that you can also read the stories shared by others! Real life stories about exiting the highway. Some stories were fantastic. Plus, they also gave me new ideas where to go when we take our next road trip. And to make your summer road trip a little easier, I have a $50 Visa gift card to give away to one lucky reader!! WOO!  You know the drill. Just enter on the Rafflecopter widget below.

  1. Yes, as a matter a fact I did. When I exited the HWY in WI on Cty rd 29, I came across a house/bar. The name of the bar, " The Neutral Zone". If you know MN and WI football team's, then you'll get this. Half the bar was purple and the other half yellow, I honestly couldn't see a real neutral zone there, not on game day. So being the curious person I was, I went in and it was game day. It was energized to say the least. That was my little adventure!!!

  92. My husband and I had just been marries 2 weeks and we drove from my home in WV to his Mom's home in California to meet the parents. We were going through Texas(I think)stopped at a Steakhouse for dinner. The sign said open but we could clearly tell it was closed. Then we spotted a sign that said to ring the bell. We rang the bell and to our surprise a man came out of the house next to the steakhouse and yelled, "Be right there!" Sure enough he came out of the house and opened the steakhouse for us. We ordered the steak and while he cooked our meal he told us they raised their own cattle for the meat. Honestly that was the best steak I have ever had. The man was very sweet and attentive to our needs as we ate. I wish I could remember where this place was. I would love to go back and have another steak!

  162. LOL. I have had some adventures by exiting the highway but it is usually to avoid traffic and I end up getting lost or taking the long way. So much for thinking you can save time that way:)

  167. One time in West Virginia we got off the highway to get gas. We followed the signs to get back on, but we must have done something wrong because we ended up on a one lane road winding through water, woods, mountains - you name it! It was quite the long detour and definitely an adventure. We kept hoping nothing terrible was about to happen to us. We always laugh when we are on a trip and pass that ominous exit now.

  168. I pledged to exit the highway. But maybe not at that same spot as before in WV. We do like to exit the highway and take scenic drives. Especially now with the invention of GPS - you can explore and not get really lost.

  180. When we were young, my mom took us to the zoo in Michigan and we ended up in Ohio when we left. She got lost and we did get to see a few things there, unplanned
