Thanksgiving is right around the corner and I am excited. I love making Thanksgiving dinner. I spend the day cooking and have friends over. There are years when we have to go visit family but many years, we cannot travel because of work. When we lived in Florida and Santa Fe, we would actually invite our singleton friends over for Thanksgiving.
I try to make dinner special. Of course, I make the traditional meal of Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and everything else. But besides good food, I always try to make sure my table looks nice and appealing to our guests. It's tough because I am not a crafty person. I am also not a great decorator. So I tend to try and get ideas from magazines and websites.
I always have the turkey platter I inherited from my grandmother on my table. But aside from that piece, I like buying something new each year. I love making my table look good and that requires buying serving platters, linens, decorations and other party supplies. There is nothing like making a wonderful meal and not having beautiful plates and platters to serve the food on. That is also an important part of a great meal.
Once that is done, I can focus on my meals. Growing up, we never celebrated Thanksgiving because my parents were from Costa Rica. But as I grew up, we adopted the holiday and started cooking. I made my first turkey at the age of 13. I never looked back. Now I always make a traditional meal: turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, apple and pecan pie, yams and a green bean casserole! Yum! I am already getting hungry for Thanksgiving!
My best dish is my stuffing. I use bacon, sausage and sourdough bread. I add some special ingredients and it is the best thing ever. Everyone who has ever tried, loves it. And no one leaves out house empty-handed on Thanksgiving! I always make sure they take leftovers and leave the house full!
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I need to go shopping for a new items for my holiday table and I will definitely be heading over to Target. It is the best place to go for holidays! You will find what you need and not pay a lot of money!
Happy Holidays!
