It’s getting to that time of year again. Marathon season is kicking off. The TV events have seen every celebrity this side of the X Factor doing something to raise money. But yet we all know raising money should be a year round effort. And it could be easier than you think.
Almost everyone nowadays owns a smartphone nowadays. Take a look down any street or on any bus and you’re likely to see a handful of people tapping away on the latest device. Yet few people know you can have fun, do good, and raise money for very little, no cost at all.
Charity Miles
Need to get fit and want something to run for? Charity Miles could be the app for you. Simply choose a charity and hit the streets. For every mile you run, you can earn 25 cents, whilst on the bike you can earn 10 cents per mile.
It’s the extra boost you need knowing you’re running to help people’s lives, so lace up those trainers, and hit the road.
My Life As A Refugee
Developed by the UN refugee agency, this app helps to raise awareness of those fleeing from conflict or persecution by dropping you into a virtual world where you experience the exact same thing. Based on three real-life situations, you must live the life of a refugee, making tough decisions on your future to try and survive.
Another incredibly innovative app is Play To Cure: Genes In Space. Brought to you by the Rational Group and Cancer Research UK, you must follow a route through space that follows real genetic patterns of cancer patients.
These routes are then relayed back to scientists for analysis to determine connections between particular genes and one of the world’s biggest killers.
Feedie
With Feedie not only do you get to dine in some incredible restaurants, but you also feed some of the poorest children in South Africa at the very same time. Teaming up with The Lunchbox Fund, all you have to do is take a photo in a participating eatery, upload it to Feedie, and that restaurant will donate a meal to a child living in poverty.
Continuing the photography theme, Johnson & Johnson will donate $1 for every photo uploaded to their app. Whether that be food, landscapes, or even a hideous selfie. So far the family company have seen over 190,000 photos uploaded via the app, and has been shared across all social media platforms, meaning even more are getting involved. The photo revolution has well and truly begun.
That is so generous of Johnson and Johnson, they have done this donate a photo thing a few times.
ReplyDeleteThose are so'e amazing apps! I've been back and forth on running so know I know Ican do it for a cause. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteFirst I'd have to get a smart phone. And the money to pay for service. I volunteer weekly.
