This has been a long winter but it finally seems like Spring is here to stay. After a winter like this, I am ready for a change. Spring is a time for renewal. For us, we will be moving to a new town and we have bought a new house. This major life event is something we are looking forward to but it can also be overwhelming.
All too often, people wait for something bad to happen before they worry about whether or not they have the right amount of coverage. We are not those people. We already have been researching the type of insurance we need on our new house. We have also been researching the type of insurance we need on our current house if we need to rent it. The best time to get educated about insurance is when you’re in the process of making a major life decision, like buying a new house before a crisis hits and you need insurance.
Here are some tips from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) that will help you:
Get Ready
Insurance needs vary greatly by person, but there are some common life situations during which it’s especially important to ask the tough questions, including:
* Buying a New Car: Beyond the sale price, what other costs should I keep in mind?
* Getting Married: How might our individual credit and legal histories impact our combined
financial future?
* Buying a New Home: How would I handle the financial burden of an unexpected disaster
affecting my home?
If you’re in the midst of a major life event, you can head over to the Insure U site and take a look at the new Get Ready resources. The Get Ready resources will help you get informed about insurance before you need it. Insurance will help you when a crisis hits. Being informed will save you from costly decisions later. For the life situations mentioned above, Insure U offers 5 Tough Questions to ask yourself and Take Action Now checklists to help you get ready. For more tough questions to consider, plus supporting infographics, videos, apps and games, visit www.insureuonline.org.
Life is full of surprises. A few months ago we had no plans to move. Now we are moving, hubby has a new job, we are selling our house and we bought a new house! Surprise!! Thanks to NAIC I have a “Life Kit” to give away to one lucky reader. The "Life Kit" is filled with several “surprise” items to help you get ready to navigate through life ($50 value).

Daily life to life is an event. Vacation would be an event to have insurance. You never know what can happen. Patricia

ReplyDeleteNo major life events this year (at least that I know of now), but we're careful to be insured--we have renter's insurance, car insurance, motorcycle insurance, life insurance, and health insurance, and maybe more, but that's what I could think of right off the bat.
ReplyDeleteWhen we buy a new home, I would definitely need insurance in case something happened.
