Seventh Generation Toxin Freedom Fighters #FightToxins!!

“I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Seventh Generation. I received a promotional item and product samples as a thank you for participating.”

I have teamed up with Seventh Generation to help spread awareness about the importance of chemical reform in the United States. Chemical reform, you ask. Yes, chemical reform. Seventh Generation is trying to make sure that we are aware of the toxins in our lives.
Why Do We Need To Address Chemical Reform?
* More than 80,000 chemicals available in the United States have never been fully tested for their toxic effects on our health and environment.
* Scientists have linked exposure to toxic chemicals to many health risks, such as Cancer, Alzheimer’s, learning disabilities, asthma, birth defects, and various reproductive problems.
* The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) was passed in 1976, and unlike other major environmental laws, has never been updated. As it currently stands, tens of thousands of potentially harmful chemicals continue to be used in the marketplace since the 1970’s without proper testing and without disclosure by the companies that produce them.
* For additional information to learn more visit the Natural Resources Defense Council website.
A few years ago, I was using a cleaner in the bathroom. It was super harsh and I inhaled some of the fumes. A few hours later, I had a headache and felt nauseous. By the next day, I had a sore throat and cough. I got really sick from the fumes I inhaled and it affected my health. After that, I vowed to be careful with the cleaners I buy. Certain chemicals can lead to cancer, asthma, learning defects and more.

I am not saying I do not buy some chemicals but I always try to buy green or natural when I can. I try to reduce the amount of toxins that I use in my home. I have tried to find cleaning products that are organic and toxin free. It is not easy but they are definitely out there. With some research, you can find some great products that will work for any lifestyle. Seventh Generation products are a good place to start.  Buying eco-friendly products made a difference in my life and I am healthier for it.

You can also help reduce toxins in our environment. There are several ways you can get involved. First, become a Toxin Freedom Fighter. Second, you can make a difference by signing the Seventh Generation's petition to Congress. The petition urges Congress to reevaluate the Toxic Substances Control Act for the first time since 1976. Just click on the button below to sign the petition.

You can also spread awareness by informing others that of the 80,000 synthetic chemicals introduced into the market since the Toxic Substances Control Act was passed in 1976, the EPA has required testing on less than 10%. That is insane. Only 10%!!! I would love to see that 10% go to 100%. I am realistic though and know that will probably never happen but even if we can bump up that 10% to 40%, 50% or 60% we would be so much safer.

Remember that every little bit helps. It's not just about chemical reform but trying to live a more green and eco-friendly life. Recycle, compost, buy eco-friendly products, shop locally or walk instead of drive. Every little bit helps.

  3. We love Seventh Generation products, they smell clean but completely naturally, some of the other cleaners are so strong, they bother our sense of smell.

  4. I don't have any allergies per se, but I am very sensitive to any kind of strong fumes. I'm trying to be as non-toxic as I can be with the products that I buy and use. Just considering the toxins that can get into the water system and into the air, it it crucial to be mindful of the impact all these chemicals can have on us and the environment. I am in full support of Seventh Generation's petition.
