With Cinco de Mayo only a few weeks away, I wanted to see if you’d be interested in participating in a blogger review challenge, hosted by leading Hispanic and ethnic cookware company, IMUSA & McCormick Spices. In case you are not familiar with the holiday, Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War, and has evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage in the United States.
But I still had to try and make my feast when we returned, so I did. I made some delicious ropa vieja with white rice, Costa Rican black beans and a guacamole crema. Oh dear, it was delicious.
I had a little help though. I was given an IMUSA Cinco de Mayo gift that included a suite of IMUSA and McCormick products to review. The products included are:
· The IMUSA Tortilla Warmer
· The IMUSA Tortilla Press
· The IMUSA Lime Squeezer
· An array of McCormick spices to give your recipes that added flavor
I used the Tinga de Pollo spice mix for the ropa vieja. Ropa Vieja is easy to make. I roasted a skirt steak in the oven and then pulled it apart. Then I sauteed it up with onions, peppers and the McCormick spice pack. It made a great flavorful beef dish. I used the Lime Squeezer for the avocado crema. Avocado crema is so easy to make. All you need is avocados and sour cream and a squeeze of lime. I love this gadget. It makes ti so easy to juice the limes and gets a lot of juice out.
I did not use the tortilla press although I have made homemade tortillas before. I will use it when I get motivated. It is easy to put together a wonderful meal with McCormick spices and IMUSA gadgets. My belated Cinco de Mayo dinner was wonderful and made better with the spices! But these products are not just for special occasions, they are great for your every day meals as well.

Buen Provecho!
Your Cinco de Mayo feast sounds delicious! I'm very jealous of your IMUSA goodies, though--I've got their tortilla warmer and tortilla press on my Amazon wish list! I've only made tortillas a couple of times, but I use store-bought ones a lot and could really use a warmer. Enjoy yours!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, that looks so yummy! Avocado crema is something new to me! I must try it.
ReplyDeleteYour Cinco de mayo meal looks so delicious and what a nice way to celebrate this day. You sure are a good cook and I bet it tasted so good. This meal looks so healthy.
ReplyDeleteThe ensemble looks perfect for cinco de mayo! I love their molcajete and tortilla warmer!
ReplyDeleteYour meal looks so delicious and comforting, especially the black beans, tortilla and rice with avocado crema! My mother owns an IMUSA cast iron tortilla press which I've seen her use since I was young for making tortillas and other similar flat breads! I love the colorful cloth tortilla warmers, the black ceramic bean pot and the light weight cast iron wok from IMUSA!
ReplyDeleteThis looks delicious. We did Cinco de Mayo at home but your belated meal looks a bit better than mine.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby's mom and grandmother are both Mexican and he grew up on some awesome food. I am still trying to replicate their cooking, but haven't achieved it yet. I've never made Ropa Vieja before, but it looks delicious! I'll have to try and surprise my hubby with it soon.
ReplyDeleteForgive me if this is another comment, as I don't see the usual message. Like I say with a MIL that's Mexican and a from scratch awesome cook I have a lot to live up to. I haven't replicated her wonderful cooking, but if I made this for my hubby he would faint! I've never made Ropa Vieja before, but it looks yummy!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm going to try this one more time as it still didn't say that my comment would be visible after approval. My MIL is Mexican and an excellent cook. I'm not as good as her but I know if I made this dish for my hubby he'd sure be happy!
ReplyDeleteLooks yummy! I am going to try this recipe
