About 10 years ago, I was at a friend's house having dinner. For dessert she served a wonderful chocolate cake and some Moscato wine. I had never tried Moscato wine. It was sweet and smooth and I was hooked. I had never had it and it was the perfect drink for dessert. Then a few years ago, I was at a friend's party and she had Moscato wine as a party drink and not a dessert wine. Since I loved it, I tried with dinner and it was perfect.
Moscato is not just a dessert wine, it goes well with everything. I always have a bottle in my house and when I want wine, I reach for the Moscato. I always have it with dinner if given a choice. I have even convinced others it is okay to drink a sweet wine with savory or spicy food.
We just moved into a new house and the past few weeks of our lives have been crazy. We are also traveling in between our move so it just got crazier. I needed a break so I broke out the wine! The Moscato wine, of course. Luckily, I had been asked to review Gallo Family Vineyards Red Moscato wine so I knew it was the perfect time to open it.
Because we just moved, our kitchen is not really set up for me to cook. We have been eating out a lot. But we also have a few snacks just in case we get hungry with all the unpacking. Our house is crazy, but we have one outdoor space that is perfect for an afternoon break. I decided to bring out one of my favorite snacks: cheese and crackers. I had some salami, Gouda cheese, spicy olives and cheesy crackers. I added some fresh orange slices and ice to my Moscato. If I had more fruit in the house, I would have added a variety of fruit to make a quick and easy Sangria.
While hubby worked building shelves for our closet, I sat outside and had some Red Moscato and snacked on the cheese. Luckily, he joined me later and we had a wonderful evening sitting on our porch watching and enjoying our new neighborhood.
In fact, when we have our housewarming party on the 4th of July, I will have the same set up. I will have cheese, crackers, olives and spicy cured meat. I will also have other savory appetizers that will pair well with Moscato wine, including my new favorite, Gallo Family Vineyards Red Moscato.
If you have never tried Moscato, you should. It is sweet but not too sweet. It is a refreshing drink for summertime. Add fresh fruit or some sparkling water and you have a great cocktail. It pairs well with spicy and savory as well as sweet foods. It is perfect for any occasion. In fact, May 9th was National Moscato Day. I cannot believe I missed it! Next year, I will be celebrating it! Give a try and see what a wonderful drink it is especially during summer!
