Help the Allstate Foundation Break the Cycle with the #PurplePurse Challenge!

Disclosure: This post is part of a sponsored campaign with The Allstate Foundation and MomSelect. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

It is so important to talk about domestic abuse especially now when it is in the forefront. Many times domestic violence gets swept under the rug. But it is now being talked about and that is a good thing because this violence and abuse must be stopped.

Domestic violence is not only about the physical abuse. It is about financial abuse as well. Many women cannot leave because they do not have the resources to leave. Part of the plan of the abuser is to control the survivor. Taking away the power to have money and a means to leave is just how the abuser operates. It is time to break the silence and break the cycle. 98% of all cases of domestic violence

Luckily, the Allstate Foundation Purple Purse is helping survivors of domestic violence. By raising awareness of the financial abuse that traps women, the Allstate Foundation is making a difference. The Purple Purse program raises money for more than 140 national, state and local domestic violence organizations. Funds raised will support life-changing financial empowerment services to help domestic violence survivors build safer lives for themselves and their families.

The Allstate Foundation is investing more than half a million dollars in the Purple Purse Challenge. The more donations each nonprofit gets, the more it can compete for Allstate Foundation incentive funding. You can help your local non-profit by logging onto PurplePurse.com between Sept. 2 and Oct. 3 and making a donation!

This year, actress Kerry Washington is the Purple Purse ambassador. She has designed a beautiful and limited-edition purple purse to raise awareness. The purse represents a domestic survivor's financial domain. The goal is to get women to be able to be financially independent if she is ever to leave her abuser.

Because I am spreading the word, I received a purple tassel for my purse. The tassel is a symbol for breaking the silence and stopping domestic violence. Each tassel comes with an inspiring story of a survivor. I will wear it proudly on my purse to show my support. I will also be making a donation because it is time to stop this violence.

When Domestic violence affects one in four women in her lifetime, it is time to stop it. It is time to stand up and say no more. Help the Allstate Foundation Purple Purse initiative and make it fashionable to talk about domestic and financial abuse. Make a difference.

If you or someone you know needs immediate help, please call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or TTY 1-800-787-3224. Let's break the silence and raise awareness.
