But I love Mexican style tamales which are masa (dough) and one or two fillings. I am a fiend when it comes to tamales. I never make them because they are a lot of work. Making the masa is difficult and then you also have to cook the filling, stuff the tamales and then steam them up. I would rather go to a restaurant and pick some up.
I had the opportunity to review Tucson Tamales and, of course, I jumped on it because if my love for tamales. I wasn't sure what to expect. I have purchased frozen tamales before and have been disappointed.
Well, I was not disappointed this time. I received a variety of tamales in a Styrofoam container. The tamales were well packed and fresh when I received them. I received a variety including Santa Fe (Pork Loin, Green Chile Sauce and Cheese), Santa Cruz (Mild Red Chile Beef, Olive in Red Chile Masa), Sonora (Roasted Chicken with Green Chile Sauce), Arizona (spicy beef) and Tubac (Chorizo, Potato, Cheese).
They were easy to cook. You can steam them or you can microwave them. I decided to microwave although I knew steaming was better. But they came out warm and fluffy in the microwave. And all the varieties I tried, were absolutely delicious.
Like I said, I am a masa snob. But the masa on these tamales was flavorful and yummy. The tamales held up and were stuffed with delicious meats and spices. My favorites were definitely the Santa Cruz and Tubac tamales. I could eat these every day of my life. These were just as good as homemade and much easier.
I would definitely order these. To order Tucson Tamales, you can head over to the website and place an order. They have a large variety of tamales including vegetarian and vegan. There are also breakfast and dessert tamales as well. If you are a tamale lover, you will definitely love these.
Thanks to the great people at Tucson Tamale, I have a variety of tamales to give away from one lucky reader. Just enter on the Rafflecopter widget below.
