Lately, I have been thinking of my abuelita. I always do around this time of the year because el Dia De Los Muertos ~ Day of the Dead. She died quite a few years ago but she is always in my heart. Throughout the years her wisdom and her teachings have always kept me going.
This month AVEENO® is celebrating a new initiative that initiative we are executing for AVEENO®: “Sharing Your Traditions and Home-Made Wisdom”. This made me think about all the things I learned from my abuela and mami.
Besides my sister, my mom and grandmother have been the biggest influences in my life. Their guidance and support have helped me throughout the years. It was my grandmother who once told me: Mejor sola que mal acompañada. Translation: Better alone than in bad company. Those words of wisdom have always saved me from bad relationships. This is the best advice I have ever received.
It is my mom who keeps our traditions alive to this day. Every Christmas, I remember making Christmas tamales to serve to the people who dropped by the house to celebrate. She continues the tradition every year come rain or shine. A few years ago, she even let me document the tamale making process so it could live on with me and my sister.
Sharing traditions is really important in our family. I still carry on traditions and that includes taking care of my skin. I might be 50, but I look a lot younger. So does my sister and my mother. We do because we still use natural products, wear little make-up and have great genes.
One of the products my mami and abuela always used for their skin was oatmeal. Every so often, I would see them grab the oatmeal and honey and mix up a face mask. Sometimes, they would put the mixture on our faces. It was sticky and gooey but my skin felt so much better as the treatment. Oatmeal is great for skin. It exfoliates and cleanses. The honey cleanses the skin as well and makes it smooth. The oatmeal and honey mask is not only for your face but can be used on any part of the body that is dry. A oatmeal bath does wonders for your skin.
To this day, I still use the oatmeal and honey masks. Sometimes, I add some avocado to my face mask especially in the winter when my face gets really dry. The avocado oil really helps. It is also great for your hair. Just add a little olive oil, mash the avocados and then put on wet hair. Leave it in for 15 minutes and rinse well. Your hair will be soft and smooth!
There are so many other remedies that my grandmother and mom taught me and I still use them. Using homemade products is important to me because they are part of my family tradition. But I also love convenience and that is why I love AVEENO® products. While oatmeal helped my skin, taking oatmeal baths are messy so it is easier for me to use AVEENO® Daily Moisturizing Lotion and AVEENO® Daily Moisturizing Body Wash on my dry skin.
During the winter, I need AVEENO® because it is my go to lotion for dry skin. It is also great on my face. AVEENO® Daily Moisturizer Lotion also has SPF so it is perfect for my face in the winter or anytime. AVEENO® products give me the benefits of natural products and I do not have to do a thing. And I like that.
If your skin needs a little pick me up, try my home remedies or, better yet, try AVEENO® because it is so much easier. AVEENO® is great for any beauty routine!
I used to do oatmeal and honey masks all the time, but lately I have not done it. I sure would have liked to get some of your tamales. I love tamales! Also, good advice-better to be alone than with bad company! Aveeno makes great products that really help dry skin.
ReplyDeleteI have heard of the oatmeal and honey facials, but have never tried it. I think it is time to give it a try. Sometimes the less expensive home remedies are the best.
ReplyDeleteI haven't done an oatmeal mask before...I prefer smoother masks that tighten on the skin and treat pores. I like Aveeno lotion.
ReplyDeleteAveeno had been around so long and they have come a long way. I have just tried using their lotion and I love it. We still use the oatmeal baths but have added the lotions to the list.
