2015 was a fantastic year for movies especially Disney movies. 2016 seems to be on the same trajectory as well. One thing you can always count on with Disney movies is that you will get a movie for everyone in your family and they will be great. I am so excited for all the movies and here is a sneak peek of the 2016 slate.
JANUARY 29 - THE FINEST HOURS
A heroic action-thriller, “The Finest Hours” is based on the extraordinary true story of the greatest small boat rescue in Coast Guard history. Presented in Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D, the film transports audiences to the heart of the action, creating a fully-immersive cinematic experience on an epic scale.
I love me some Chris Pine. And I am a sucker for true stories. This movie looks pretty amazing and epic. I also know that hubby will love this movie!
MARCH 4 - ZOOTOPIA
The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when rookie Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery.
I saw a sneak peek of the movie when I was at the D23 Expo. It looks hilarious! I love animated movies and this one looks clever and cute.
APRIL 14 - THE JUNGLE BOOK
Directed by Jon Favreau (“Iron Man”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of selfdiscovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johansson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire.
This is one of my favorite movies ever. I remember watching it when I was very young, decades ago! It is one of my favorite stories so I am excited for this remake.
MAY 6 - CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR
Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.
All I can say is SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! This is the movie I am most excited to see this year. I love me some Captain America! And the fact that Cap takes on Tony Stark makes that so exciting. OPENS May 6!
MAY 27 - ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS:
In Disney’s “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” an all-new spectacular adventure featuring the unforgettable characters from Lewis Carroll’s beloved stories, Alice returns to the whimsical world of Underland and travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter.
How can you go wrong with Alice? I don't think you can. I cannot wait for this movie because it brings back some of my all time characters in literature. The first one was amazing so I expect no less from this one. Check out my Alice adventure below!
JUNE 17 - FINDING DORY:
Disney•Pixar's “Finding Dory” reunites everyone’s favorite forgetful blue tang, Dory, with her friends Nemo and Marlin on a search for answers about her past. What can she remember? Who are her parents? And where did she learn to speak Whale? Directed by Andrew Stanton (“Finding Nemo,” “WALL•E”) and produced by Lindsey Collins (co-producer “WALL•E”), the film features the voices of Ellen DeGeneres, Albert Brooks, Ed O'Neill, Kaitlin Olson, Ty Burrell, Eugene Levy and Diane Keaton.
Nemo was so great so I am sure this movie will be just as cute and fun! The trailer just makes me want to watch this now!!
JULY 1 - THE BFG:
The talents of three of the world’s greatest storytellers – Roald Dahl, Walt Disney and Steven Spielberg finally unite to bring Dahl’s beloved classic “The BFG” to life. Directed by Spielberg, Disney’s “The BFG” tells the imaginative story of a young girl and the Giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country.
AUGUST 12 - PETE'S DRAGON
FALL 2016 - QUEEN OF KATWE
The story centers on a young girl from the slums of Uganda who, with the help of her coach, becomes a chess prodigy. The story is based on an ESPN Magazine article and the 2012 book 'The Queen of Katwe: A Story of Life, Chess, and One Extraordinary Girl's Dream of Becoming a Grandmaster,' both by Tim Crothers.
NOVEMBER 4 - DOCTOR STRANGE
I am so excited for this movie!! And one of my favorite actors, Benedict Cumberbatch, is in it!! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
NOVEMBER 23 - MOANA:
Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one today knows why. From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated adventure about a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest. During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli’i Cravalho) meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), and together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds.
This movie looks amazing. I think this will be the breakout animated movie of the year. The story sounds so interesting and the animation looks so special.
DECEMBER 16 – ROUGE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY
A rogue band of resistance fighters unite to steal the Death Star plans and bring new hope to the galaxy. "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" takes place before the events of "Star Wars: A New Hope" and will be a departure from the saga films but have elements that are familiar to the Star Wars universe, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know.
Ummm, two words: Star Wars! I am all over this one!
