I am not a wine person per se because I really don't know what wine is good with what type of food.
But I do enjoy wine with my meals every once in a while. I especially enjoy sweet and sparkling wines.
Recently I received a bundle of wines and goodies from Banfi so I could enjoy the different type of wines they produce. I was thrilled because it allowed me to get a little creative and learn about in, thus, making my experience much more pleasurable.
When you realize that there is a "science" to win and its flavors, it is helpful. Choosing the right wine pairing is key. Banfi allowed me to do so and it really made the difference. I feel like I have had a mini education on wine and love it.
Here are just some examples of my wine pairing based on what I learned and what I felt would work together.
On Sundays, we like to have Brunch. It is the only day that we can sleep in and get a break. So I like making quiches and salad. With our quiche, I decided to pair the Bolla Sparkling Wine and Rose Regale. These mainly go with sweets or in other drinks but I felt I needed something light and sweet to cut through the heaviness of the bacon and cheese quiche. They were wonderful. Light, sparkling and sweet. Not everyone lies sweet wines but those are my favorite.
The next weekend, I made a beautiful caprese salad with fresh pesto made with the basil I grew. I also had fresh mozzarella and heirloom tomatoes. Because this is such a light dish, it held up well to a red wine. This Riunite Lambrusco is fizzy and fruity (YUM) and worked well with the strong pesto and freshness of the cheese and tomato!
I have to say that I loved these wines. I still have a few more to try and pair. I am making lots of notes in my Wine Tasting Notebook and hope to enjoy them all! If you are looking for some new wines to try, check out the large selection of wines Banfi Wines sells.
